Guaranty Trust Bank plc has refurbished the football field at Obele Community Schools complex in Surulere, Lagos. The facility was commissioned and handed over to the schools on Wednesday 27th September, 2017.

The development of the facility is part of the Bank’s corporate social responsibility initiative on education and youth development, aimed at providing essential sports infrastructure in schools that participate in the annual GTBank-Lagos State Principals Cup tournament.

Pitch care and football equipment were also donated to the schools as part of the Bank’s support to encourage regular maintenance and usage of the facility to further enhance the standard of sporting competitions particularly the GTBank-Lagos State Principals Cup.

The representative of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State at the commissioning, Mrs Sewanu Amosu thanked GTBank for being a dependable partner of the Lagos State Government in the development of the youth through sports and education.

The facility is expected to meet the demands of the 4 school in the host community – Obele Community Junior and Senior High Schools, and Ideal Girls Junior and Senior High Schools – and others in the Lagos State Education District IV.

High point of the event was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to officially open the facility for use by the Community. A novelty match was also played between Obele Community Senior High School and Gbaja Boys High School which ended 1-0 in favor of Gbaja Boys High School.

Other participants at the event included Mrs. Bola Babs Akinyeye, Director, Co-Curricular Services, Ministry of Education; Mrs. Lola Are-Adegbite, Tutor General/Permanent Secretary (TGPS), Education District IV; GTBank Representatives lead by Mr. Babajide Sipe; Principals, teachers and students of the respective schools in the community.
