The Principals Cup which was initially known as the Zard cup was the first nationwide sponsored inter-secondary school competition. The Principals Cup witnessed a demise when players started getting violent, amongst other things.
Guaranty Trust Bank however took up the reviving and sponsoring of the competition, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility projects in Education, in 2010.
